Assessments
Johanna C. Psychology offer a variety of specialised assessments to explore your child or young person's intellectual, learning, or behavioural strengths and challenges. From discovering cognitive aptitudes to exploring symptoms of anxiety, a range of tests can help determine what is working well and what can be tried to help improve learning and daily life for you and your child.
Psychometric test reports can be valuable in assisting schools to plan adjustments, access additional programs, and/or grant assessment provisions for students who may be eligible.
Intellectual Ability (IQ testing)
To find your child's profile of intellectual abilities, we use standardised psychometric tests of several cognitive abilities and adaptive skills. The testing involves a series of short mental tasks that range from processing visual stimuli, using verbal reasoning, timed tasks, and some memory activities. The full assessment includes initial interview, individual testing, and the provision of a diagnostic report.
Academic Achievement (Learning disorders)
Academic skills such as Reading, Writing, and Mathematics can be evaluated in comparison to other Australian students your child's age/grade. Achievement levels can be calculated to detect a Specific Learning Disorder if one is present and/or assist with learning strategies and adjustments. A full assessment consists of initial interview, individual testing, and the provision of a diagnostic report with recommendations for home and school.
Behaviour/Attention
If you have had concerns regarding your child's presentation related to behaviours such as difficulties concentrating, distractibility, restlessness, or impulsivity, frustration and aggression, testing is available to investigate behavioural responses and/or establish a picture of your child's perceived executive functioning. That is, skills in planning/organising and metacognitive skills needed to execute tasks successfully. A diagnostic report is provided to summarise your child's skills and what strategies are recommended for targeted intervention.
Please note, we do not currently offer full Autism diagnostic assessment but can offer Autism Spectrum Disorder screening. Please contact us if you would like to discuss what might be suitable for your needs.
Socio-emotional assessment
A range of tests are also available if you are concerned about your child's mood or social/emotional responses for example in relation to symptoms of Depression and Anxiety.
